2008 profit doubles for Actelion on 2007 costs
Swiss drugmaker Actelion's profit for full-year 2008 more than doubled in comparison to its 2007 result, which was reduced by charges.
Revenue jumped 12% to 1.47 billion Swiss francs ($1.27 billion), primarily comprizing turnover from the firm's lead product, the pulmonary arterial hypertension drug Tracleer (bosentan), which generated 1.3 billion francs, up 10%. Ventavis (iloprost) and Gaucher disease treatment Zavesca (miglustat) were up 34% to 94.6 million francs and 20% to 40.1 million francs, respectively. R&D costs increased 28% to 374.5 million francs.
