50 new BIA members in first part of 2008

5 October 2008

A total of 50 companies have joined the UK's BioIndustry Association during the year ended August 31, the BIA reported at its annual general meeting. These include corporate members developing new medicines and technologies as well as associates providing services to the sector.

Of the new member firms, 21 have joined the BIA's Fledgling Club, which was launched last year (Marketletter October 12, 2007). This now has 28 members, and offers a range of services specifically tailored to the needs of a growing company and was established to support and assist emerging enterprises to grow and develop into the UK success stories of tomorrow.

Aisling Burnand, BIA chief executive, said: "the last year has been a challenging one for the bioscience sector in the UK and I am delighted that more companies are recognising the benefit of the collective voice that the BIA provides for its members. And I am particularly pleased to see that our Fledgling Club, launched at last year's AGM, is proving to be such a success."
