As part of the USA's wide-ranging $787.2-billion economy recovery package, which has been approved by both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and will be signed into law by President Barack Obama on February17, the National Institutes of Health will be eligible to receive $8.5 billion for biomedical research into diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, cancer and cardiovascular conditions.
