The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry has teamed up with the Nottingham City National Health Service Primary Care Trust and general practices in the most deprived areas of the East Midlands city to form an "innovative partnership approach to preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD). In a statement, the ABPI claimed that the pioneering partnership is "believed to be the first such scheme in the country."
Under the terms of the collaboration between the NHS, the drug industry and local people in Nottingham, over the next two years the Happy Hearts project, which aims to identify people at risk of conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke, and support them in making healthier lifestyle choices, will be developed.
