USA-based Achillion Pharmaceuticals has announced the nomination of the first candidate from the firm's proprietary hepatitis-C virus protease program.
The candidate, ACH-1625, is a selective inhibitor of HCV NS3 protease. It has shown a strong safety and pharmacokinetic profile in preclinical trials, along with superior potency in HCV replicon assays comparing the drug to more advanced protease inhibitors, according to the company. Data from the trials will be presented at a later date.
