Achillion initiates Ph I/II trial of HBV drug

Achillion Pharmaceutical has begun a Phase Ib/II clinical trial toevaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics of multiple doses of ACH-126,443 (beta-LFd4C), rights to which it acquired from Vion Pharmaceuticals last year (Marketletter February 14, 2000), for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection. Preclinical testing has suggested that the drug has a greater potency against HBV than marketed drugs, and Phase I results have demonstrated that single doses of the compound are safe.
