According to the National Health Service's NHS Direct figures, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder affects between 3%-9% of school-aged children in the UK. As many as 80% of these may become ADHD adolescents and about 60% may still show symptoms of the condition as adults. Unfortunately, only about 10% of children affected are getting help.
Raising awareness of ADHD will be the focus for ADHD Awareness Week, which runs from September 22 to 27. As part of the campaign, Need2Know, the imprint publisher Forward Press, which focuses on overcoming real-life problems, is promoting its new book, ADHD-The Essential Guide.
Packed with the latest information and practical advice, the guide takes parents, carers and teachers through the whole process: from spotting the symptoms and getting a diagnosis to receiving treatment and finding support. Practical issues such as life after school and healthy eating are also an integral part of the book.
