- The Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association of the USA has voluntarily established age-related alcohol content limits for orally-administered over-the-counter medicines regulated under the Food and Drug Administration's monograph system. The new limits are: medicines for use by adults and children aged over 12 may contain up to 10% alcohol; medicines for children ages six through 12 may contain a maximum 5% alcohol; and medicines intended for children under six should have less than 0.5% alcohol.
