US firm AMAG Pharmaceuticals has received Fast Track designation for its ferumoxytol imaging agent from the Food and Drug Administration.
The iron-based agent will be used to help diagnose peripheral arterial disease in patients with known or suspected chronic kidney disease. The current standard-of-care compounds are gadolinium-based and carry a black box warning for patients suffering from CKD.
