Ambien CR raises sleep time in insomnia with GAD

14 January 2008

French drug major's Sanofi-Aventis says that new study data showed Ambien CR (zolpidem tartrate extended-release) tablets CIV provided improvement in sleep onset, sleep maintenance and total sleep time for patients with co-morbid chronic insomnia and generalized anxiety disorder compared to placebo, while also improving sleep-related next-day functioning measures.

This multicenter, double-blind, eight-week, parallel-group, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in 381 adults aged between 21 and 64 with co-morbid chronic insomnia and GAD, assessed treatment efficacy during clinic visits at weeks one, two, four, six and eight through daily patient-reported Morning Sleep Questionnaires.
