US football hero Joe Montana has signed a two-year deal with Novartis to back a hypertension awareness campaign that includes promoting the firm's antihypertensive drug Lotrel (amlodipine and benazepril hydrochloride). The campaign started late-August and the terms of the contract are not disclosed, according to a report by Forbes magazine.
Joe Montana, who was famed for never showing stress as the opposing linemen closed in, becomes the latest in a growing list of celebrities signing deals with drugmakers, says Forbes, noting that, in late-July, one-time Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka signed up to help promote Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline's erectile dysfunction drug Levitra (vardenafil).
