American Oriental up on OTC revenue

18 May 2008

American Oriental Bioengineering, a Sino-US company producing and distributing drug and nutraceutical products throughout China, has announced a surge in earnings for the first quarter of 2008, driven by strong over-the-counter sales.

The firm reported net income of $9.4 million for the period ending March 31 2008. This was up 46% on the same quarter last year and gave the firm $0.12 earnings per diluted share. The results were driven by a 51% increase in revenue to $38.8 million.

Nutraceutical turnover for the company was down to $6.9 million during the quarter. This was more than made up for by a 72% increase in pharmaceuticals, accounting for $31.9 million of revenue. The highest contributing products were Shuanghuanglian Injection powder, Cease Enuresis Gel and the Jinji series of products.
