The potential sales figures in Malaysia for the erectile dysfunctiondrug Viagra (sildenafil) were described by its developer, Pfizer, as "mind-boggling." If each of the 500,000 men estimated to be wanting to take Viagra uses an average of four tablets a month, sales could come close to 1 billion ringgit ($263 million) a year, noted Pfizer Malaysia managing director Radzmi Rahmat. About 1.2 million Malaysians are believed to be suffering erectile dysfunction, according to Bloomberg News.
Just prior to the launch of Viagra in Malaysia, Deputy Health Minister Mohd Ali Rustan warned potential users of the risks of not taking the drug as prescribed or without a prescription. He also urged the wives of Viagra users to ensure their husbands abided by the prescribed dosage, according to the Malaysian Bernama news agency.
Viagra will be sold in Malaysia for 28 ringgit per 25mg tablet, according to Pfizer, while the 50mg and 100mg tablets will sell for 38 ringgit and 48 ringgit respectively.
