- Reseachers from Avigen have reported that gene therapy using the company's adenoassociated virus vector system is effective in treating brain tumors implanted into mice. After the gene coding for the thymidine kinase enzyme was transferred into the mice, Roche's ganciclovir was administered for five days. The treatment reduced the brain tumor 35-fold, says the company, with no evidence of toxicity.
