Bayer/Onyx' Nexavar boosts OS 44% in HCC
Patients who took the liver cancer drug Nexavar (sorafenib) saw a large improvement in overall survival compared to those on placebo, according to data presented at the 59th annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, in San Francisco.
Developed by Germany's Bayer HealthCare and the USA's Onyx Pharmaceuticals, findings from the Phase III SHARP trial showed that the patients on the drug experienced a 44% OS benefit (p=0.0006), while those in the Asia Pacific study improved 47% (p=0.014). In afternoon trading on the day the results were presented, October 31, Onyx stock rose 5.7% to $27.26.
