- US pharmaceutical company Belmac has launched its first drug product, a macrolide antibiotic called Biolid, onto the French market. The product will compete with Rhone-Poulenc's Josacine (josamycin) and Roussel-Uclaf's Rulid (roxithromycin), and Belmac hopes to capture 15% of the 1.1 billion franc French macrolide market. The company has also acquired distribution from UK concern Fisons for Amodex (amoxicillin) in France for 35 million francs.
