BIA introduces management development program

15 December 2008

The UK has a rich bioscience base and a relatively strong small company sector. However, the future success of the bioscience sector and Britain's position as a bio-knowledge economy will strongly depend on biotechnology, product development/commercialization and business innovation. It is therefore essential that a pool of talent is developed to deliver innovative products and processes for "UK plc" and, ultimately, the delivery of benefits to patients, says the Biotechnology Industries Assocation.

Recognizing this need to develop talent specifically for the sector, the BIA has announced the launch of a Management Development Program in early 2009 to help people from specialist or technical backgrounds become more comfortable, confident and skilled in a management role. This has been accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management, and also incorporates the established BIA Mentoring Program, as well as providing the next generation of industry leaders with an excellent opportunity to work with established industry practitioners.

The BIA MDP will consist of between eight and 10 one-day training sessions, held monthly and spread over a year. Grants are available through Semta Train to Gain for qualifying companies.
