Amgen reveals material cyber breach with patient data stolen

USA-based biotech major Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) has disclosed what it called a material cybersecurity incident, in which hackers exfiltrated company data, including proprietary information and patient protected health information, from cloud environments run by third-party providers. The company revealed the breach in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Amgen said it identified the unauthorized activity in July and responded by activating its cybersecurity response plan, putting containment measures in place and bringing in independent forensic experts. The investigation is ongoing, and the group is still assessing whether confidential business data, intellectual property or research and development material was also accessed or stolen.
