BioCryst winds down internal discovery as it pivots to external innovation
US biotech BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: BCRX) is winding down its internal drug discovery programs and plans to close its Discovery Center of Excellence in Birmingham, Alabama, by the end of 2026, as it shifts toward externally sourced rare disease assets.
The company said a strategic review of its research capabilities, programs and priorities found that external innovation offered a more flexible route to building a rare disease pipeline beyond Orladeyo (berotralstat), its marketed hereditary angioedema (HAE) therapy, and its current clinical programs.
