US biopharmaceutical firm Biogen Idec says it has received notice from Icahn Partners and certain of its affiliates of their intention to nominate three individuals to its board of directors.
The three nominees - basically proposed by billionaire Carl Icahn in his third proxy fight with Biogen ' are: Eric Rowinsky, a former chief medical officer of ImClone Systems ( company acquired by Eli Lilly in 2008 for nearly $6 billion); Thomas Deuel, a former board member at ImClone; and Richard Young, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Besides chief executive James Mullen, board member Bruce Ross is retiring. Also up for election are Brian Posner, former CEO of ClearBridge. Mr Icahn already has two board members, Alexander Denner and Richard Mulligan, who won seats in 2009.
