
US biotech Incyte (Nasdaq: INCY) today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Vega Therapeutics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Star Therapeutics, for $1.25 billion.
The announcement partially confirms an earlier report by the Financial Times that Incyte planned to buy Star entirely for around $2 billion, but it now seems that the company will use the cash injection to develop the remaining candidates in its pipeline, which include complement-directed antibody-based therapeutics.
