
There was disappointment for Germany’s Merck KGaA (MRK: DE) and pharma giant Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) yesterday when they announced that their late-comer checkpoint inhibitor had failed in another Phase III trial, this one in ovarian cancer.
The Phase III JAVELIN Ovarian 200 trial evaluating Bavencio (avelumab) alone or in combination with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD), a type of chemotherapy, compared with PLD did not meet the pre-specified primary endpoints of overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with platinum-resistant or -refractory ovarian cancer.
