UK approves Cytokinetics’ Myqorzo as NICE backs NHS use in obstructive HCM

US cardiovascular biotech Cytokinetics (Nasdaq: CYTK) has gained UK marketing authorization for Myqorzo (aficamten), while the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended the cardiac myosin inhibitor for National Health Service (NHS) use in England and Wales in adults with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM).

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency authorized the drug on Wednesday for eligible adults with New York Heart Association class II or III symptomatic oHCM. NICE published final guidance the following day, recommending aficamten as an add-on to optimized standard care, including beta-blockers, non-dihydropyridine calcium-channel blockers or disopyramide, or as monotherapy when those treatments cannot be used.
