Brazil's pharmaceutical market, which regularly tops the IMS Health Retail Drug Monitor's growth list of 13 leading countries (Marketletters passim), is set to expand by 21.5% this year according to data from Business Monitor International, up from last year's still impressive 17%.
Part of the growth is attributable to currency fluctuations, with 7.7% remaining in local currency (the real). The main factors in the country's pharmaceutical market acceleration are a dynamic generic drug sector, government health care spending increases and a steady economic performance.
