Call by MEPs for Euro AD action plan
Five of the 785 current Members of the European Parliament have signed a written declaration which calls on the European Commission and the European Union's Council of Ministers to recognize Alzheimer's disease as a public health priority for the region. Francoise Grossetete (France, European People's Party), John Bowis (UK, EPP-European Democrats), Katalin Levai (Hungary, Part of European Socialists), Jan Tadeusz Masiel (Poland, Independent) and Antonios Trakatellis (Greece, EPP) have also demanded that a European action plan on AD, including more drug R&D funding, should be formulated and put into effect.
Ms Grossetete, who chairs the European Alzheimer's Alliance, said that the MEPs "cannot remain indifferent to the 6.1 million Europeans who live with Alzheimer's disease or a different form of mental decay."
