Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum officials, meeting on November 24 in the southern Angola city Ondjiva, Cunene Province, have recommended the creation of a regional committee to tackle HIV/AIDS in that country and Namibia.
This was manifested in a ceremony that served to balance the five-day work carried out in Cunene and in the neighboring Namibia, by the SADC parliamentarians, aimed at checking the epidemiological situation, in terms of HIV/AIDS, in the two countries, reports the Angola Press Agency.
Speaking to the local press, the head of the SADC parliamentary team, Helder de Albuquerque, stressed that such a measure will bring about better results in the fight against HIV/Aids, mainly at the Angola/Namibia border regions. Namibian parliamentarian Moses Amweelo praised the idea of creating a regional committee, adding that, in so doing, this will strengthen the joint activities in the fight against the diseases that are more frequently recorded at the common border.
