Chinese approval for China-made nine-valent HPV vaccine

China’s National Medical Products Administration approved its first domestically-developed nine-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine on Thursday.

The vaccine, Cecolin 9, was jointly developed by the Xiang An Biomedicine Laboratory, Xiamen University and Wantai BioPharm (SHA: 603392).

Shares in Wantai closed 10% higher Thursday following news of the approval, which makes China the second country in the world - after the USA - with the capability to independently supply high-valency HPV vaccines.
