The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) has welcomed the publication of the Competitiveness Compass by the European Commission (EC) and the recognition of the role that innovation in life sciences can play in reigniting competitiveness in the European Union (EU).
EC President Ursula von der Leydon announced the new roadmap last week at Davos 2025. The EU aims to close the innovation gap by investing in sectors like artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology and space technology. Specifically, it plans an EU Start-up and Scale-up Strategy to encourage new companies to emerge and flourish.
The EFPIA also said it strongly supports the objective of simplification and coordination of the EU regulatory environment as a key component of the region’s competitiveness.
