EMEA advises on how to deal with heparin contamination aftermath

The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has released advice on the use of heparin products contaminated with over-sulphated chondroitin sulphate. The EMEA was asked to give its scientific advice on the crisis (Marketletters passim) by the German national medicines agency (BfArM). After a review, the Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has come to the conclusion that:

- OSCS has been found in unfractionated (standard) and low-molecular-weight heparin;
