EU nod next for ATTRv-PN drug

10 March 2025

AstraZeneca (LSE: AZN) and Ionis’ (Nasdaq: IONS) Wainzua (eplontersen) has been approved in the European Union (EU) for the treatment of hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults with stage 1 or stage 2 polyneuropathy, commonly referred to as hATTR-PN or ATTRv-PN.

This marks the second approval in a large-scale market for the drug, which was initially approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in December 2023 under the brand name Wainua for the treatment of ATTRv-PN.

In achieving this milestone, Wainzua becomes the only medicine approved in the EU for the treatment of ATTRv-PN that can be self-administered monthly via an auto-injector.
