A major explosion has occurred at the Schweizerhalle plant of the Swiss pharmaceutical and chemical concern Ciba-Geigy. A fire resulted and one employee was injured. The company confirmed that damage was caused of around 1 million Swiss francs ($661,400). The accident was triggered during filtration of a pharmaceutical intermediate product in the plant where a range of substances are manufactured, notably those required for producing anti-epileptic drugs.
