Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, a US specialty biopharmaceutical company with a focus on developing and marketing to urologists, endocrinologists, orthopedists and select primary care physicians, has chosen Switzerland-headquartered Ferring to replace French drugmaker Ipsen, its former European marketing partner for Testim, its topical 1% testosterone once-a-day gel for the treatment of hypogonadism.
Under the terms of the agreement, Auxilium will be responsible for manufacturing and supplying Testim to Ferring, while the latter will deal with all regulatory, sales, marketing and distribution activities in Europe. Auxilium will receive upfront, milestone and royalty payments. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. Testim is currently approved for sale in 15 countries in Europe.
