Alpharma, a US specialty pharmaceutical company, has announced that afire at its Lowell, Arkansas, location on September 24 resulted in the death of an employee, while a second was injured. The fire took place in an area of the site where certain feed additives for the company's animal health division are blended.
Disruption caused by the fire is expected to have a short-term negative impact on the company's financial results, with the effect on operating income of the temporary warehouse shut-down likely to be no greater than $5 million in the third quarter.
