France's drugmakers raise wages over 2%

16 February 2009

The French research-based drug industry association, the LEEM, has negotiated pay rises of 2.2% for the sector with four labor unions, the  CFTC, CFDT, FO and the pharmaceutical sales representatives' union, the  SNPADVM. Under the terms of the deal, the entry level wage for the  industry will be 1,342.21 euros ($1,720) per month, maintaining a 1.6%  differential with the minimum wage (SMIC).

The LEEM also announced that a further examination of pay scales will  take place in the third quarter of 2009. However, the news follows  recent forecasts of major job losses among sales representatives and the  drug industry representative body is organizing re-training programs for  affected staff.
