Russia aims to have generic of one of the most expensive cystic fibrosis drugs

Russia will have its own generic of one of the world’s most expensive drug against cystic fibrosis, as the Russian pharmaceutical company Amedart announced its plans launch a domestic analogue of Trikafta (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor), a drug from the American company Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: VRTX) for the treatment of cystic fibrosis, reports The Pharma Letter’s local correspondent.

Between February and April 2026, Amedart received four approvals from the Russian Ministry of Health to conduct clinical trials of its drug for the treatment of cystic fibrosis. The Russian analogue will be compared with the original Trikafta, according to the state registry. Amedart plans to introduce the drug into commercial circulation around 2027, according to the company's Deputy General Director, Anna Samoylova.
