GenVault joins P3G project

2 September 2007

San Diego, USA-based GenVault, a specialist in the provision of integrated archiving and retrieval solutions for organizations managing DNA collections, has announced the successful development of a bio-bank for the Montreal-based non-profit Public Population Project in Genomics (P3G) organization.

The P3G, which was established by Genome Canada, Genome Quebec and the publicly-funded genomic research group CARTaGENE, is designed to provide the genomics research community with the resources, tools and know-how to facilitate data management for research. The biobank project is set to receive around $9.6 million in funding over the next three years.

GenVault was chosen to implement archiving and retrieval systems for genetic samples taken from over 20,000 Quebecoise due to its experience of sample storage development. The new system is capable of performing a dry-state extraction of DNA at room temperature, thereby reducing both the space required, as well as the considerable costs associated with the freezing steps used in conventional DNA storage/retrieval.
