Germany's research-based pharmaceutical industry association, the VFA, has published details of a members' survey on the sector's outlook for 2009. Its main conclusions are that drugmakers offer secure and reliable employment, even in the current economic downturn, with many firms planning new R&D projects. 71.9% of respondents said they expect turnover to rise, 26.5% said their firm intends to hire more staff and 43.8% are planning R&D expansion. Conversely, 43.4% of firms plan headcount reductions and 25% are planning investment cutbacks in new product lines.
