An African Herbal Pharmacopoeia detailing the uses, quality and safety of 52 of the area's most important plants is to be launched - the result of three years of research involving five African and European universities and l7 scientists. Each of the monographs contained in the Pharmacopoeia will provide comprehensive botanical, phytochemical and commercial information on the individual species, selected on the basis of a systematic review of published and unpublished literature and subject to extensive consultation across the continent.
