Hungary Outlaws Viagra Sales/Ads

22 June 1998

Hungary's Consumer Protection Supervisory Board has announced that thesale and/or advertising of Pfizer's erectile dysfunction treatment Viagra (sildenafil) is illegal, reports MTI Econews.

The Board made the statement in response to a request for an investigation by the National Pharmaceutical Institute into reports of trading in Viagra on the black market in Hungary.

The Institute said that promoting the illegal distribution of the drug in the country breaches advertising legislation and laws on pharmaceuticals. Reports add that Pfizer has yet to submit a request to the Hungarian authorities for the drug's registration in the country.
