Around 4,000 of the 5,300 workers employed by ICN Galenika of Belgrade, capital of the former Yugoslavia, now own shares in SPI Pharmaceuticals, which is the majority shareholder in ICN Galenika, according to reports from the Tanjug news agency. SPI Pharmaceuticals is a subsidiary of ICN Pharmaceuticals of the USA, which is owned by Milan Panic, Prime Minister of Yugoslavia.
Meantime, Galenika, which is also a shareholder in ICN Galenika, has taken control of the Glina baby food company in the self-proclaimed Serbian Republic of Krajina, which is inside the Republic of Croatia, says the Tanjug agency.
Galenika will be able to sell dehydrated baby food, vegetable soups and vitamin-enriched food products from Glina's production program. Glina exported baby food worth around $11.5 million in 1991.
