Lord Black: Big Pharma is "too cautious"
Nobel Prize laureate James Black has told the UK's Sunday Times newspaper that the drug industry's "safety-first approach" is hindering innovation.
Lord Black helped discover two major classes of drugs, beta blockers and anti-ulcer histamine receptor blockers. He said that, in his recent experience, Big Pharma companies were only comfortable in well-recognized fields, and he expressed doubt that in today's environment his discoveries would have been made.
