Alex Krauer, managing director of the Swiss chemical and pharmaceutical concern, Ciba-Geigy, has denied that his company could be about to merge with the other Swiss company Roche Holding. Market speculation has fuelled the rumors recently, but Mr Krauer has said that there is no truth in them.
He added that the company's strategy is to grow from within, and that there are no merger plans whatsoever. However, Ciba-Geigy will continue to work with other companies and universities, particularly in the field of biotechnology. Ciba-Geigy already has a number of alliances with start-up biotechnology companies in the USA. Analysts say that the company's strategy will result in it establishing more projects outside of Switzerland.
