Mixed results for Pfizer and BioNTech’s combination mRNA-based vaccine

US pharma giant Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) and German partner BioNTech (Nasdaq: BNTX) today announced mixed top-line results from their Phase III clinical trial to evaluate the companies’ combined mRNA vaccine candidate against influenza and COVID-19 in healthy individuals 18-64 years of age.

The news caused BioNTech’s shares to dip more than 3% to $87.25 in pre-market activity, while Pfizer fell as much as 2.8%..

The combination candidate consists of Pfizer’s mRNA-based influenza vaccine candidate with the companies’ licensed COVID-19 vaccine.
