USA-based biopharmaceutcal firm Myriad Genetics has announced the completion of a Phase I trial of MPC-0920, its candidate oral direct thrombin inhibitor. Results from the program, which examined the drug in healthy volunteers in a single escalating dose regimen, showed that it had a "significant biological effect on clotting time and a desirable safety profile."
Myriad said that MPC-0920 is designed to be a rapid-acting anticoagulant and is intended to provide an improved therapeutic window and more predictable response in patients requiring anti-thrombin therapy. The firm went on to say that analysis of the reported data showed that the drug's activity was correlated to observed plasma concentration, and added that no treatment-related events had been observed.
