NCPDP rolls out new drug database

18 May 2008

The National Council for Prescription Drug Programs in the USA has introduced a new database to ensure that pharmacy claims for processing drug prescriptions contain the correct information. Health Data Management News reported that the scheme is aimed at pharmacy benefit management firms, health insurers, pharmacies and other stakeholders.

The new generation application, called dataQ, contains data on almost 75,000 pharmacies. The database is accessible via the Internet, offers instant look-ups and has extensive custom reporting capabilities, according to the NCPDP. Other benefits of the program, HDM News says, include aggregating drug utilization data and product recall monitoring as well as market research and analysis.
