CVS, one of the USA's major drug store chains, has announced the launch in early November of a new price war for prescription drugs, which has previously seen some antibiotics or influenza vaccines given away, while the cost of some generics has fallen to below the level of several insurers' co-payments (Marketletters passim).
Customers who pay cash will get a 10% discount at the firm's 554 in-store MinuteClinics. 90-day supplies of selected unbranded medicines will be set at $9.99. The offer is dependent on each customer paying a $10 annual fee to participate in the Rx Health Savings Pass.
