A new report has been unveiled at an event in Raleigh, North Carolina, about medicines in the research pipeline for diabetes by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). The study shows that US pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms are testing a record 183 new diabetes medicines. The products listed in the report are in clinical trials or await approval by the Food and Drug Administration.
"We released this report in North Carolina because of the alarming rise in the number of new cases of diabetes in the state. Unfortunately, these rising numbers reflect what is occurring nationwide," said the PhRMA's senior vice president Ken Johnson, who presented the report's findings at the SAS Institute located in the Research Triangle Park Corridor. SAS has a successful diabetes management program for its employees.
