New US DTC guidelines from PhRMA dismissed by leading Democrats

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) has adopted measures to strengthen its Guiding Principles on Direct to Consumer Advertisements about Prescription Medicines. The group said it intended to affirm its commitment to responsible direct-to-consumer advertising that benefits public health. However, the reaction from Democratic party legislators who control Congress was less than enthusiastic, with one claiming that thePhRMA had merely reworded some its previous positions and ignores the issue of a moratorium on promoting new agents.
