The North Dakota House of Representatives has voted 57-35 to keep its protectionist pharmacy laws, which require prescription drug retailers to be majority-owned by a qualified pharmacist. The 46-year-old law is unique in the USA and means that discount chains such as Wal-Mart and Target cannot operate their $4 per month prescription drug schemes (Marketletters passim) in the fourth-smallest state.
