Novartis highlights Tekturna's kidney-health benefit
Swiss drug major Novartis is sponsoring World Kidney Day, a campaign to improve the screening and management of high blood pressure, which is a major cause of chronic kidney disease.
As part of its support, Novartis is highlighting the beneficial effects on the kidneys of its blood pressure treatment Tekturna/Rasilez (aliskiren). The recent AVOID study showed a 20% reduction in albuminuria, a key indicator of kidney disease, when the drug was added to USA-based Merck & Co's cardiovascular drug Cozaar (losartan).
